I have over 1600 on my 798CI SI in the bow in about 3 years. You never know with electronics, but I can say it has been completely problem free in that time, and I expect/hope that will continue.

Not sure on #1, but I doubt it has anything to do with the strength of the signal being sent by the transducer. For #2, do you have the latest updates on your unit? On my 997, one of the most recent updates gave me a 3rd menu selection when hitting the power button while the unit is on. The added op...

Try doing a "quick format" of the SD card and then copy the update over to it again. That's what I had to do the first time I did a SW update. I had the same issue as you. Now I always format the card first before doing an update.

If your future plans might involve having more than 1 HB unit on a boat, then yes, I'd say the HD is worth the extra money to be able to link them. Also, the new 360 scan requires an ethernet port. So the HD should allow you to add that down the road also, if you wanted to.

The biggest difference is the HD has an ethernet port, which makes it easy to link to other HB units so they can share some info, like waypoints. Probably not a useful feature in your current setup. Also has a different base map, I believe, but neither is likely to have much pond detail. SI/DI and b...

John, when I power up I have to bypass the simulator then it always goes to "sonar view". I would expect it to remember the last screen once you have a transducer hooked up and it's all installed in the boat. If not, contact HB. Make sure you have the lastest software loaded, too. Would you happen ...

The way it's suppose to work, and usually does, is the screen that is showing when you power it off is the one that shows up when you power the unit on. If you're running the simulator, I don't believe changes like that will take. Also, the readout selections are different for the Nav screen vs othe...

Yes. The 798 does not have the option for the HDSI in the menus, so just choose the compact.

Good point, Wayne. A lot of our lakes look like that, too. I'd guess the TM mount is not going to happen as the constant turning of the TM head would likely mess up the image processing.

If it is only a matter of software update , it will be very easy . I am afraid that for units older that 998 , it will be needed to bu a new 998 unit Unfortunately Humminbird didn't made this point clear up to now What Wayne is saying is that all the current 998 (and 798 and 1198) owners will need ...

No, it's not compatible. It has no ethernet port. That was one of the changes from it to the 998.

The ethernet units have not been out that long, so HB has left a lot of it's potential customers out in the cold on this one. But it is what it is.
