The 1 kW transducer is for 2D sonar only in the 200 / 50 kHz signal.

It's purpose is for 1000 ft and deeper signal.

Mostly used on offshore fisherman/commercial boats.

Just extend any yellow and black wire from inside your PC case.. ( From the PSU )

Use a drive power plug, put a fuse on it, and your good to go.
Clean, safe power, and no question asked!

You can use 1 or multiple polygons to draw the map. It will depends on the complexity and the type of map that you want to show. Me, I use Garmin Mapsource, since all my GPS are Garmin, to merge multiple tracks in one big track. Save space on the unit for more data. I don't know if you can merge tra...

It depends... The one you see in the post, is only one line, that I merged.

Sometimes you can merge some tracks, but not always. It depends on the map.

The more complex the map is. The more difficult is to merge tracks.

The SD Card slot can be made waterproof from inside the unit. The door still need to be closed to block debris. But the slot should be waterproof. It could allow the SD card to be wet, but at least, you won't swamp the entire device because of a simple gasket. On my garmin handheld, the USB port is ...

It's a shame that a 1k$ marine unit don't have sealed ports.. Like the one on the back on each units. I consider that a serious design flaw that push me away from bigger model. I know that my 778C is entirely waterproof, and don't have to think about a flimsy card door (which won't win any design pr...

Place the fuse as close to the battery terminals as you can - not the unit. The fuse is there to help protect the boat (not the unit). This is the first time that I read a TRUE answer about fusing a cable or unit... The fuse is here to protect the wiring, not the unit!! Follow Greg answer! He is ri...

Do you know how much data the unit save in recording mode with SI?

Say, I want to scan 4h-6h at a time, is a 8Gb card enough or I need 16/32Gb card?

Thanks Greg.. I was looking at the near same picture in each user manuals, but had a hard time differencing the size of each plugs (ethernet vs TG-W) Now I clearly see that the new units have a bigger plug, not only more pins... I'm happy to see that next year model will solve this.. ( what will be ...

Normally unit perform fine up to 5ft. in the 0-5ft range, you must do some tricks to have accurate bottom depth. Set your surface clutter in the 8-10 range. Then, lower the sensitivity down in the 1-5 range. Next, you can try the Switchfire Clear Mode. Final, you can set the unit to 200kHz only. Sur...

Thanks Wayne for the help.. But I think you mis-read my post.. I don't plan to use the Ethernet capabilities, and will only use 1 unit on the boat. (will sell the 778c to finance the 798) I looked at the Humminbird Website, and they don't list the temp sensor TG-W as being compatible with the new HD...

Future 798 owner questions!

I plan on switching my 778c (old model non-ethernet) for the new 798Ci SI HD. My first question, since the new model have ethernet out on the same NMEA plug as the 778C, Is the data cable and the NMEA IN/OUT will still work with the current cable plugged in the 778C? The pinout seem exact, apart a p...
