Re: First post here, btw

Here's my question: On a large 24' center console, will the plastic bracket be sufficient? The boat only runs 50mph, but usually much slower while customers are aboard. It does see a lot of rough water though. If you want to use it for depth readings going down the lake at 50mph, yes, there is a po...

I agree that this does seem to be an issue HB should address. There are several threads here and in other fourms supporting the fact that plastic brackets are a weak point, especially on faster boats. It seems the right thing to do would be make the transducer stronger in that area, IMO. I'd read ab...

The 1197 I had was a very buggy unit, so that flavors my opinion of it, as you can understand. I had it out for 3 or so fishing trips before returning it to Cabela's. I thought it was just too big and clunky and not worth the $3k+ price tag. When it worked, it worked okay, but no better than my 798....

The cover arrived yesterday. It's a snug, but good fit, FWIW.

I'm happy with my mount position now, FWIW. It's no longer kicking up a rooster tail and tracks the bottom up to 64mph. The on screen bottom image gets a little choppy at much over 45mph, but it displays the correct depth numbers on the screen. I ran the Lowrance at the same time and the 798 does at...

I ordered a neoprene one from Cabela's last week for mine, but have not received it yet. It was only like $5. link.

The most recent review of the product on Cabela's website says it fits his 797 perfectly.

Two first pictures

Just a couple of pictures from my new 798SI. The lake is Beaver Lake in NW Ark. It's an impoundment that was flooded in the mid-60's, so lots of stuff down there. I'm not sure what this first one is. I'm guessing it's a foundation for something. It seems to be on a bit of a point. It's in my favorit...

Thanks Greg. I know I could do that, but then I believe I'd have to undo them once fishing to get the best quality images. So just not worth the hassle to me. Both power buttons are right there, so I'll just run one at a time. What I'm hoping for is to get the 798 working well at all speeds with no ...

I finally got my new boat rigged up with the 798 and took it for a fishing trip yesterday. It's a new 08 Skeeter SL210/Yamaha F225. It's got a built into the dash Lowrance X50 with a shoot through the hull transducer, so I have high speed readings there already. But I want to get my 798 working at s...

I had tried it in both slots, with the same error. I did find a different memory card this morning and that worked. It was the same size and brand card. Still very odd since the 798 had written several other files on the other card. It just could not write the nav files to it. How can the same unit ...

Export to card failed

I'm having just awful luck with these HB units. I first bought an 1197 SI Combo NVB unit a month or so ago and it had more bugs than an ant farm. I took it back and decided to try a 798 SI Combo NVB instead. I was just not impressed enough with the SI on the 1197 to have $3k into it, but could see t...

Just to close this thread, Greg did send me a shipping label for the unit. I got it the day after Memorial day, so very fast! But I sent him an email asking if it was insured, or if I had to buy that myself. He never answered me (out of the office maybe?) all week, though. We were headed up to KC ov...

Thanks ITGeek. Sounds like you had/have even more issues than me! I mounted mine in the boat on Friday and took it fishing Sunday and Monday. One other frustration was with how short the transducer line is! It took a lot of work to get to the console from the transom with enough length to still reac...

Thanks Harald. I expected to lose all my settings when I did the restore defaults, it just would've been nice if it had fixed the problem, too. Will it hurt the unit/ducer if I don't have it in water while hooked to the powered on unit? I did a little more experimenting with it this morning. I was j...

1197 shutting down

I hate to complain on my first post here, but I have to say I'm pretty disappointed in my brand new 1197C SI Combo NVB. And I haven't even put it in my boat yet! I have it hooked up to a battery so I can work the functions while reading the manual. But if I have it in demo mode (transducer not attac...
