Thanks for bringing that up, Bob. I always forget to mention that. I do have the HDSI transducer from the bigger units on my 798, too. But I have had it setup since I got the unit new, so I can't really say how much, if any, it impacts the returns.

The way I've heard it on the scroll speed is you want it set about how many miles per hour you're going. So if you're going 5mph, set it to 5 or 6. Doing the update is pretty easy. You don't really need to export all your nav data, but it wouldn't hurt. I take the time to jot down my settings becaus...

I run the chart speed on my 798, which is up front on my boat, at 3-4. Too fast will distort the images unless you are really moving along. Sensitivity on 2d is 12-13, SI/DI is 11-12. But that depends on so many things like water clarity, depth of water, etc. Do you have the latest updates on the un...

Well, tell us what you've tried. If you don't have the newest updates, those might go a long way to making you happier. Things like switchfire, different color palletes, etc make them much better tools.

Yeah, we're pretty much out of luck on that one. It apparently takes a hardware change to address the problem. I bought a Raptor hood for my 997, and it helped quite a bit. But I would hate to have it front. 798 is WAY better for that.

This is a known issue/short coming of the 898/9xx/1197 models. Not an issue for the 798 or 1198, though. See my thread on a comparison between the 798 and 997:

thanks for the clairification! I wonder if the screen difference is big enough to make any real difference. There is no difference in the screen between the older 798 and newer 798. Here's a thread where Greg from Humminbird confirms that: http://www.xumba.scholleco.com/viewtopic.php?t=3336 The onl...

From the HB website: Download to your computer and copy the uploaded software to an MMC/SD card. Then insert that card into your unit to update its code. CAUTION! We highly recommend that you restore the defaults on your Humminbird unit prior to downloading any new software as it can create complica...

How deep is the water? If less than 10', turn Switchfire to "clear". Otherwise, use "max". Also try switching the beam select to dual signal mode (200/83). Sensitivity and surface clutter are also important, so play around with those until you get it looking the way you want. I usually have sensitiv...

Not that I know of. Triplog will give you an average speed, but not max.

My 798 was the same way when I put it up front. I have a Minn Kota TM with the US2 transducer built in that I was using at the time. I got the interference kit from HB support for free, and it fixed it right up.

Not a peep out of HB in response to the email they asked me to send with screen shots. Unusual for them to take this long to respond.
