With a good in-unit waypoint management software (wink wink) you should be able to use the 3000 waypoints available..

But as the unit are setup, more than 100 waypoints, and you must do endless scrolls to find your data...
So a couple SD cards and a good backup on your PC should do the trick!!!

The answer here is.. The DI units will work fine at that speed "IF" you installed the transducer correctly to read on plane..

But my opinion on this is that you will not have a perfect picture.

The best you should do is run split screen 2D and DI at the same time.. Best of both worlds!

It's just a marketing Gimmick, to boost sales. The HD designation is used on the 640x640 display resolution. Units made prior 2011 have the same display, just no HD designation.. So, for what is worth, the HD tag is worthless. The main difference in the 798 for 2011 is the Ethernet port. Everything ...

It was just a comment made by a Humminbird Dealer in a French board.

Just thought of posting it here.

I don't know if it's true or not!

1198 Problems

Have just seen this on a European Message board, which can relate to some problem seen here on new 1198.. Here's the quote in French: "Oui effectivement nous avons retardé le lancement du 1198 car il y a un problème sur les nouveaux LCD qui demande un retour en usine. Rien de grave mais nous préféro...

Ok, the beam size is different between Di units and non-DI..

Non-DI have 200 kHz at 20 degree
83 kHz at 60 degree

Di units have:

200 kHz at 25 degree in 2D mode
455 kHz at 16 degree in 2D mode

455 kHz at 75 degree in DI
800 kHz at 45 degree in DI

On the DI units, you will not have the 83 kHz signal.
Only the 200/455 in 2D sonar and 455/800 in DI

From my personal experience, the 83 kHz signal is just a tad less precise in the 0-5 ft range..

So it's only in really shallow that the 83 kHz signal should be turned off..

It would be nice if Humminbird put the option to turn off the 200 kHz for dual sounder application.
Since I don't see a technical limitation doing this.

It would make happy a lot of users that don't have Ethernet units.

If they do this, I am the first to buy a second unit!

These treaded holes are for the dash mounting kit...

The unit is 100% waterproof, I tried it...
But I had some problem with moisture in the past. Just left the unit in the sun to "dry it"

I don't know for the extension cable, but using Fuse Tape is really a good idea!!!

Since the plug "should" be watertight, you can just stuff the connection with dielectric grease to keep moisture out, and then use Fuse Tape

Hey Greg, did you have any info on my case?

I have now a track of 7600 point in the unit, and a total of 24,000 points
I love it!
But it would be nice to know what's the real deal about this.

Do I have a VooDoo unit, or it's just a misprint in documentation?
