That is truly an amazing shot and the Humminbird 997c SI is an amazing unit. Given that you had your range set at 114 and the depth was so shallow, you're probably right at saying they are probably carp and it is probably during their spanning season when they tend to school up in incredible numbers...

Great looking picture. Were you able to catch stripers in that location? I haven't been able to get any pictures with the split screen showing them on side scan and 2D yet.

Check out this link. You'll also find that if you lower your scan from 150' to about half or a little less and only view one side of the boat, say 60' you will be able to see the fish on the screen better. At 150' the fish are there but you just can't see them because you've actually made them so sm...

I was having the same similar problem until I adjusted my transducer. Problem solved after only one adjustment. Try angling it more under the boat. :)

Specks are gone!!!

I ran the power supply directly to the battery and we went to the lake today and was on the water for 3 hrs with the specks all over the screen. Talk about something bugging the crap out of ya. When we got back to the boat landing I thought I'd check out all the features and I noticed the noise filt...

The next chance I get to work on my boat I think I'm going to try what "camalama" is talking about. Right now there is about 6-8 inches of snow on the ground so it might be 3 or 4 days before I can get back to checking it out. The last thing I can remember involving the wiring was when I had to get ...

Thanks Greg for helping me find out what is causing the interference. Now I need to find out what I need to do to illiminate the interference.

Thank you blackwaterkatz
I'm still very new to using this unit and I was totally unaware of that feature. I will give it a try today. Again thanks

I found out today that the interference is coming from the motor. I took all the spark plugs out and thoroughly cleaned them and checked the plug wires. I'm still getting the interference. I've used the graph on the last 5 or 6 trips and didn't have any interference but during the last trip the inte...

What is causing all the specks?

Went fishing today and the graph was littered with specks all over the screen. I turned the sensitivity down but they were still there. Can anyone tell me what could possibly be causing them?

Depth to target = Depth * (Dist. to target/Dist. to shadow)

Depth to target = Depth * (Dist. to target/Dist. to shadow)
81.9 x (72' / 104') =
81.9 x .6923 = 56.69'

These numbers do appear to be correct.
Thanks Rickard.

How deep are these (fish or baitfish?)?

I can tell these (fish or baitfish) are approx. 75 feet to the right of the boat but how can you tell how deep they are?

House foundation on Belews Lake

http://www.postimage.org/Pq10UUlr.jpg http://www.postimage.org/aVXHeAr.jpg This is the foundation of a house that was actually still standing about 20 years ago. In 1990 when I was on my first boat I decovered this. The water was flat and really clear as Belews Lake, NC almost always is. I went dir...
