transformer help 120vac to 12vdc

Post by fay4est » Sat Feb 18, 2012 1:04 pm

I plan to power my HB unit inside with a transformer. My transformer is 120vac to 12vdc.
When I put a volt meter on the output it reads 16.5 volts. Is it safe for me to use on my
HB combo? I know boat battery voltage can vary. Fay

I believe you need to find out how many amps the convert is putting out and please do not forget to put the proper size fuse on it.

The converter that I have been using is from Digi-Key. it is made by CUI, Inc. Model HK-H1-A12, PRI - 100 -240V 50 - 60 Hz 0.8A SEC 12V=0 -2.5A (set at 2.0A)
This is the information on my converter which was recommended to me 2years ago and I have been using it without any problems.

There are a lot of different converters used with success, you may want to search this site for them, they only thing I know is that amp output is important along with the voltage. I believe the recommended fuse is 3 amps.

Just extend any yellow and black wire from inside your PC case.. ( From the PSU )

Use a drive power plug, put a fuse on it, and your good to go.
Clean, safe power, and no question asked!

Thanks guys, I just found where 798 unit is good for 10 to 20 vdc so it looks like I am
good to go. I do need to add a 3amp fuse though. Transformer is rated at 1000ma. :)
