I have a Helix 5 SI GPS and mounted the transducer on the transom. I drive as a volunteer for my son's high school bass fishing team and twice the transducer flipped out of position during tournaments. Yesterday during a tournament in heavy waves it finally snapped off the cheap transom mount and my prop chopped the cable. So now I'm shopping for a new transducer.
According to Humminbird my original unit should be XNT9SI180T. When I bought the unit at Bass Pro Shops the salesman told me DO NOT MOUNT THE TRANSUCER ON YOUR TROLLING MOTOR, SIDE IMAGING NEEDS TO BE IN A STATIC LOCATION.
Was that advice a bunch of baloney? I've never liked the transom mount location because of the above mentioned issues. Now it's busted off and I have to spend $150 for a new one.
So tell me guys, is my Helix 5 SI going to work well with a trolling motor mounted transducer? It looks like the correct transducer for trolling motor mounting is XTM9SI180T. Is that what I should get or something different?
If I stay with a transom mount, should I use a spring bracket to mount it like the Transducer Shield and Saver?
