Multiple schools

Post by 320hotrod » Sun Apr 29, 2007 9:28 am

Came up to the bridge pillars where everyone was crappie fishing with little luck. Marked these schools of fish of the channel edges south of the bridge and pulled up 14 keeper crappie and 5 white bass before I got crowded out. This is why I love this unit. 997c

Hunting perches (Perca fluviatilis)

Post by peter_l » Fri Jul 13, 2007 5:41 pm

When i was out on the lake today, i saw a large school of hunting perches, they jumped on the surface. I started recording, on my 797. And i belive this picture shows some of them.

The small lines around the underwater structure i belive is fish.

First pic is a test can for size reference, 6ft length x 14inch diameter (6 metal 5 gallon cans connected on end)
Second pic I believe to be White sturgeon (larger fish) and Grass Carp (smaller fish), haven't been able to prove it yet. Water has only warmed up to 50F, not biting yet.

Skigill,
In your first picture, the 2D portion shows individual fish more like diagonal dashes like this / . Have you checked the levelness of your transducer with the boat in the water? When fish show like this it indicates that the back end of the transducer is lower than the front and so it is not level or parallel to the surface of the water. While it can make fish show with a longer leading edge and short (or no) trailing edge, it can also affect the Si images. Easiest way to check this is to idle by a pole or bridge pylon that sticks straight up out of the water. If the transducer is level, the image of the pole should show straight horizontally on the unit’s display.

Greg, I will check the angle of the transducer. I was moving faster than normal also. Thanks for the input.

Lots of fish on 2d and some on SI. I do not know what kind they are as I couldn't get anything to bite all weekend. These were in a river channel just below the outlet of a damn. All are with 797.
