997c and heavy duty ram mount plate dont match up??

Post by naturalnbama » Sun Mar 29, 2009 7:52 pm

I have a new 997c si and ordered the heavy duty ram mount for it. the holes in the mounting gimble bracket for the 997 dont line up with those on the hd ram mount plate. Did they send me the wrong plate or do I just line it up, mark it and drill new holes?? problem is that the new holes I drill are goiing to overlap partially the existing holes. thats gonna loook krappy for something I paid 100.00 bucks for that says its made for the hb997. help me out here??

Exactly which Ram mount did you get. I check with a friend who had the heavy duty mount and the holes did match with the 997 bracket.

I have the heaviest RAM mount for my 997, and not all the holes match, but four of them do. It appears that the holes are drilled to match a variety of products. I can post a photo if it will help.

I ordered it from "mountguys.com" it says the "heavy duty" ram mount for the 900 and 1100 series humminbirds. dont have an exact model number. came with no directions or paperwork. just ram mount in a bag. lol. i sent them an email to ask the same question but no reply yet. I can matchh up 2 holes but willhave to drill out the other 2 and will hit partially 2 of the pre drilled. its not that I cant do it its just that dang this is a high dollar unit and a high dollar mount sounds silly to have to drill into misaligned holes to self fix it.

Chris - The mount I have is supposed to be the heaviest they make, but I don't remember the model number. As John says, four is enough - it's very strong. Try rotating the base 180 degrees and see if that makes a difference. I remember "playing" with it a while before deciding which way was best. I have included a pic, and can take some more if necessary.

Check these heavy duty ram mounts, they are the ones I would recommend for the heavier 997 and 1197.

I haven't seen anything for a different hole pattern for the 997 gimbals.

Chris, I think part of the problem is that not even the RAM folks know about all of the variations they sell, let alone retailers. I bought mine directly from RAM and made sure he understood exactly what I wanted. I can't even find the one I have on the RAM website! The closest I can find in the outdoor catalogs is: Cabela's # FK-01-0090-006 and Bass Pro # 21-531-643-00. Both say 3x11, but mine is slightly shorter than that. I got the 5" arm and the ball is 2.125". The holes that match my 997 are 5x1.25". One thing that is different from all the others they sell is the handle. Since I did a custom order, it don't know if this is important, but check the shape of my handle (5" arm). Once you get this problem solved, you will be very pleased with the product. Best of luck.
