SCREEN PROTECTOR FOR 997

Post by gofish » Thu Apr 29, 2010 11:51 am

Does anyone use a screen protector, like the ZAGG, on their 997? I want to get one but I can't find one for my unit on their website. It looks like they have one for every unit but the 997/957. Isn't that humminbird's most popular unit?

Screen Protector

Post by Georgek » Thu Apr 29, 2010 4:16 pm

I bought two from Zagg last year. At that time they had one for the 997. I checked their web site a week ago and it was gone. I really like it. Getting water and finger prints on the screen makes it real hard to read. The screen protector eliminates that problem. It doesn't really help on the glare issue, but it is a real improvement over the raw screen.

See if they make it for the 998. Same exact screen.

I spoke with a lady from ZAGG and she was able to find the file for the 997. It won't be on the site, but she said she could still have them made so I'm gonna go ahead and order it. :D

Let us know how it goes Gofish. If they come through, I too would love to get one.

Keep us posted on what you do. I talked with zagg a couple weeks ago and they told me they didn't make one for the 997. I found one at screenpatronus.com . They told me they had one for the 997 just haven't ordered yet. Has anyone used this brand before?

I tried the Zagg twice ( at $30 each time) and never did get a satisfatory result...the thing was just too sticky to work with no matter how much of the liquid I used...

I'm not saying the Zagg isn't a good product....it just didn't want to work to my satisfaction....I could not get all the bubbles out from under it....

I went with the screen patronus..much easier to install and still very happy with it.....

Interesting. I've got Zagg shields on 4 products right now, one for over a year. All of them were super easy installs, no air bubbles and durable as heck.

static

Post by graphics1988 » Tue May 11, 2010 11:18 am

not to ruin some sales for the company that sells the protectors BUT, go to ANY sign shop and get a piece of clear static cling vinyl from them - make your own template out of paper and cut the vinyl out - easy. And VERY cheap...its the same product....you can do the same for ANY electronic surface - phones etc. We throw more of this stuff out in a day than you could ever use - i am new to the forum and i couldnt help myself after reading this post. Just trying to help out fellow anglers.
cheers

What kind of sign store are you refering to? Someone that does vinyl lettering?

yeah most sign shops that also do printing of posters etc will use static cling vinyl. It is the same material they use for the window posters - they are easily removable from glass etc. Another thing i thought of - is we use a spray product called Plexus or plexis (not sure of the spelling), but its for plastic windshields for our snowmobiles/bikes etc. This stuff goes on and polishes light scratches out but also seals the plastic surface from waterspotting and makes cleaning the surface MUCH easier.....just something to look into as well - we use it all the time for our sleds. Any motorcycle shop SHOULD carry a similar product for their plastic windshields......anyway, let us know how you make out.

I wouldn’t use any type of polish on the display of your Humminbird unit. Even though some of these are glass; there are coatings on the outside of some of them which can be damaged either chemically or physically removed by using any sort of polish (which is a very fine abrasive).

hmmmm - ok, then i guess its a "no no" - i use it all the time on my Lowrance screens - they spot up really easily - i never thought about any "coatings" specifically on the glass. Good point - thanks Greg

Sorry it took so long to get back to you guys, I just haven't been on the site. The lady at Zagg was very nice and she was able find the shield for the 997. She couldn't understand why it's not on their site, but she was able to have them find the dimensions and make two of them for me. It took them a little while to figure it all out so she gave me a discount and free shipping. :D They got to my house quickly, but I haven't installed them yet. When I do I'll let you know how I like 'em. If you want to order one for yourself, just call them directly and have them check their database. They do exist.
