998C Transducer Mounting

Post by march999 » Sun Apr 24, 2011 5:03 am

I recently purchased a 998C and I am trying to figure out the best place to mount the transducer. I have a 27 ft SeaRay with a 10 ft beam and twin Mercruiser I/Os. To get a clear shot from side to side on the transom, I would have to mount it all the way down the center almost to the drain plug. Will mounting it between the engines that way cause prop wash interference? Has anyone had the same issue?

Thanks for your help
Fred

Fred,
I’m guessing that you won’t get prop wash interference as the props should be aft of the transducer. I bet you will get blockage of the left and right I/O outdrives though. You may have to install an HDSi transducer on the outside of each I/O outdrive and use the AS-Si-LR-Y cable to connect both to your 998c Si unit. Hard to tell without being there in person.

Thanks Greg. Something to think about. Do they only look in one direction, left and right?

XHS-9-HDSi-180-T is the correct transducer.
These transducers look left, right and down. When using the AS-Si-LR-Y cable only the left Si sonar will be connected to on the port side HDSi transducer while the right Si sonar, the conventional downwards looking 2D sonar and the water temperature is connected to on the starboard side HDSi transducer.

Ok great. I'll order the transducer and cable. With this config, I'm assuming that the left has to have full clearance to it's left and the right has to have full clearance to it's right. The drives become insignificant correct?
