transducer question

Post by svendawg » Wed Feb 08, 2012 12:04 pm

I know this is overkill for my kayak but I want to use the eqiupiment I have. I want to use my 898c on my kayak with the xp 20 t transducer mounted in one of the scupper holes so I get good contact with the water for tempreture readings. My question is can I run the 898c with the just the xp 20 t transducer. and how much less current draw will I have since I'm not using the gps or side imaging and down imaging transducer.

Thank you for your help

Yes you can. Set the Transducer Select menu to the Dual Beam setting.
I don’t know about the current draw as I have never measured one run like this.

wrong depth reading

Post by svendawg » Wed Feb 29, 2012 1:52 am

I finally got a XPT 9 20 T transducer and tried testing it prior to installing it. I tested it in the deep end of my pool at 8 feet. I was getting a depth reading of 25 t0 30 feet consistently. I have the setting set to dual transducer and the beam select set to 200/83 khz. Am I missing something in the settings

a pool may not be the best place for testing. Especially if it has rounded corners and ends. Probably getting echos bounced around a couple times that are still strong enough to register on the unit. I wouldn't worry about the depth reading in the pool. I'd just look to make sure the transducer is sounding and receiving, which it is.

I would now like to make use of the DI feature on my 898 while on my kayak. I'm currently using the XPT 9 20 T as a shoot thru transducer. Is there a shoot thru transducer with DI, Sonar and temp that will work on my 898. I've looked through the Humminbird selection of transducers but none of the DI/Sonar transducer w/o SI is compatible with the 898

No there is not.
[This could change by next week though as I am awaiting a Tech Bulletin on whether one of the DI transducers can be safely used with the Si units.]
