898c si / 797c si question

Post by kit141a » Tue Sep 09, 2014 6:16 pm

Have a 898 on dash, 797 on bow with it using trolling motor transducer. Have units connected via interlink to share GPS and way points. Have not updated 898 with latest update, was told if I updated I would lose units sharing data. Have latest update for 797. I am going to be installing a I-link on my powerdrive but in order to do that I have to install the update for the 898. So I will lose my data sharing.
Question 1. Anyway around this problem of updates?
Question 2. If I have to buy a new unit I would like it to be able to use one transducer and get SI to both units via a ethenet, is this possible?
If this is possible can you buy just the head?
Question 3. If not the above, which unit would you recommend for a low cost bow unit with SI and still share data with my 898

Thanks for any info

Welcome to the Unofficial Humminbird Forums kit141a.

1. Not that I know of.
2. Yes it is possible but you must realize that what you see on the bow unit will be coming from the transducer on the back of the boat, so you will have already passed it if you are fishing off the bow.
There are some units that are available as a “CHO” package (does not come with a transducer), but I do not have a listing of these. Typically they are the larger more expensive units that are more commonly installed on saltwater boats. Personally I would get the unit with the transducer and keep it as a spare just in case (less expensive that way).
3. Low cost? See if you can still find a 798ci HD Si model unit or even another 898c HD Si model unit. If not, then you will have to go with a current model or 899ci HD Si unit or even larger.

Thanks Gregg. That is what I was thinking just needed confirmation. I see the new 999 has the same features as the earlier models at the same cost. Is it better to stay in the same series or mix. Thinking of the problem I now have with a 700 and 800 series, I just want to make sure that I can access all features at both stations

As long as you stay in the current 800/900/1100 series units you will not have a problem kit141a. The 999ci HD Si and 1199ci HD Si models have the same features as the 899ci HD Si unit, but with larger displays.

Humminbird units do not share map data with any connection.

If you connect an Ethernet cable to your 898, INTERLINK will not work.

INTERLINK will not work with any of the 2014 year model units. It has been discontinued.

Did not mean map data but way points. I thought the interlink worked like a tv cable splitter

INTERLINK shares GPS data ( waypoints and antenna )

Ethernet shares GPS data, sensors and accessories. Some accessories are Ethernet devices ( 360, iPilot Link, and RADAR).

Pulling the plug today. Getting the Terrova 80 US2 i Pilot Link and getting the 797 out of the system. Looked on the 898, and found the latest version of 5.410. Can I go directly from 5.4 to the 7.090 or will I have to do all updates? Do not know if this is the place to ask, what will I have to do for upgrade on the Terrova. Inn what sequence should I be doing this/ Thanks

Each software version has all previous updates. You don't miss anything by skipping versions.

Update your unit and then update the iPilot Link.

Register both so you will have the software in your Humminbird account.
