GPS wiring

Greg, you stated earlier that hooking up the GPS pigtail,that the red wire wasn't needed,black to ground,white nmea out,ect. My question is what and what for is the red wire needed ? Thank you

Welcome to the Unofficial Humminbird Forums Cozumel.

That Red wire was originally included for hand held GPS units. We had some cables that would allow you to connect a hand held Garmin or Magellan GPS unit to our units and power them from your Humminbird unit. That worked fine until the other manufacturers started changing their products… but the red wire remained for many years until we finally got rid of it back in about May of 2010.
