Contour XD BaseMap

Postby shortfish » Mon Dec 14, 2009 5:12 pm

Does anyone have any info or pics about the new Contour XD basemap? Trying to decide between a 997 now or wait on a 898. How much detail will the new base map have?

I’ve been told that the 3,000 lakes that are covered will have either 10 or 20-foot depth contour lines. These are not the same as the HD lakes you get on the Navionics Premium and Platinum mapping cards. I can send you a list of the covered lakes if you are interested, so just send me an e-mail for it. Here is some of the released info on the Contour XD maps:

Anyone with a Combo Sonar-GPS unit that came with the 4.700 software in it should have the Contour XD maps in it. Perhaps they could add some screen snapshots of a lake or two that you are interested in.

That would be great on the screen captures. Preciey Preist TN, Old HIckory TN, and the Tennessee River system from Gunnersville to KY lake.

Of the lakes you listed Guntersville is the only one I see on the Contour XD lake list. I would have to look up what other lakes are on the Tennessee River to see if they are covered as well.

The ContourXD basemap lake list that I saw did not list KY Lake..or Barkley Lake for that matter..

Can anyone confirm if either of these 2 are listed in the lineup....??

Is it possible that whomever makes the ContourXD maps will be adding lakes to the lineup in the future in such a way that any "new" lakes could be added to the 1197 unit's basemap lineup in a software update through HB..??

The ContourXD maps were a package deal from Navionics. They have not been really good about selling us upgrades for these sort of things (reference the NVB maps). Besides I’ve been told that it would not be possible for a Customer to upgrade the base maps in the unit.

What about all the lakes on the Coosa Chain in Alabama (Logan Martin to Jordan lake)?

Just a thought.

Not sure where you are going with your choice of purchase, but if you can afford the 2010 998c (not 997) there are a few improvements that will help over the next few years.

The 2010 Navionics card may be the way to go to get want you need. The new 998 will have improved memory and I believe a second card slot.

Thanks George but I just received my 1197 yesterday (Wed) and I ordered the combo without the Nav Bundle...

Most info I have gained on the Nav products (from actual users) is that the after market Navionics chips are way better than either of the preinstalled Naviocs maps (Unimaps or ContourXD)

The ContourXD maps are not going to pertain to me according to Greg because my home lakes are not on the ContourXD lineup...KY and Barkley Lakes...

So, I'm watchin and waitin for a sale on the Navionic chip that I want...

The 997 already has two memory slots, and that is not changing on the 998. Also, the 998 gets a faster processor, but there's nothing about addtional memory in the literature I have on it.
