I do not get the same quality images that others appear to be getting with their 798. Can you make suggestions to the type of settings that I need to use to be able to get sharp images?

Deep water or shallow water? The reason I ask is because I have mine setup for deeper water, 10' to much deeper and run Switchfire on Max pretty much all the time. Settings for Max mode can vary from what works best in clear mode. And max mode does not work well below 10'. That's all talking 2d, of course. Switchfire mode does not impact DI/SI that I've noticed.

Primarily 10' or less. Although, I purchased the unit almost a year ago, I have not been able to use it but on a couple of trips. So i'm not familiar with all of the capabilities. I have read the sections of the manual pertaining to what I'm trying at the time. With all of that said, I have not seen anything about switchfire. I do not know what that is or what it does.

Do you have the latest software updates in your unit, like Switchfire and Down Imaging? If not, go over to the HB website, get registered and pull down the latest release. You'll want to do that before messing with a lot because you need to reset the unit to the factory settings before installing the update anyway. Plus, the new features make it a better unit.

How do you re-set the 798 to factory settings? I have not installed mine on the boat yet, but have not seen that in the manual.

Ron,
Look for the “Restore Defaults” menu on about page 60 of the operations manual.
